Cross Country Running

Welcome to our Fall Cross Country Running program! This is designed for 3rd - 8th graders who love to run and compete. Different from the Spring season, we intend to run on trails as much as possible and will incorporate longer distances. Practices will include warmup, stretching, limited strength work and, of course, lots of running. Several timed competitions at the end of the season will be held at South River High School and will likely be Saturday mornings.  We will also provide opportunities to participate in optional travel meets throughout the season, which are generally held on Saturdays and Sundays.

Practice locations will likely include South River High School or Riva Area Park dependent upon the distance group and coach. Practice days and times will vary, but are typically 3 times a week for 1 hour.

Depending on enrollment, runners may be split into two or more teams based on age.

Teams are split-up by age/distance:

  • 3K - 8-10 year olds (grades 3-4) with a race length of 3km
  • 4K - 10-12 year olds (grades 5-6) with a race length of 4km
  • 5K - 12-14 year olds (grades 7-8) with a race length of 5km
