South River Soccer is a member of the South River Youth Athletics (SRYA.org) organization serving the Maryland communities of Edgewater, Davidsonville, Mayo and the surrounding areas. South River Soccer is home to 550 - 600 soccer players each soccer season, and is a feeder system into South River High School’s renowned soccer program. The vast majority of South River Soccer’s volunteer coaches hold US Soccer Coaching licenses and are former soccer players themselves.
Boys’ and Girls’ soccer experience begins in South River Soccer’s developmental program where players ages 3 –7 learn the basics of soccer, become part of a team, and enjoy playing the game of soccer. Graduating from the developmental program, a South River Soccer player will participate in the Anne Arundel Youth Soccer Association (AAYSA) county league for players age 8 – 18, were they participate in competitive soccer as South River Soccer teams routinely compete for numerous Division Championships each season. As players grow and learn, the more skilled players will continue with South River Soccer and enter their travel program and participate in Elite Development Program (EDP) soccer, playing highly competitive soccer against teams from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and participate in the Maryland State Cup or President’s Cup. Spring 2019 Letter From The Commissioner
Good Morning SRYA Soccer Families,
I am hoping everyone is enjoying the holiday season and getting to spend time with family and friends. The New Year is fast approaching and with a new year comes a new soccer season! Registration for clinic and county soccer will open up on January 1, 2019 and the early bird discount will be good through the end of the month. Regular registration starts on February 1, 2019 and runs the month of February. Late fees are assessed beginning March 1.
There are some changes that have been made to start the spring Season, they are listed below
New Clinic Coordinator- I would like to welcome Jessica Awad to SRYA soccer family. Jessica will be taking over for Jimmy Platt who most of you know is now the President for SRYA. I would like to thank Jimmy for all of his time and efforts for clinic soccer and helping transition his Clinic Coordinators duties to Jessica. You can reach Jessica via email at ClinicSoccer@SRYA.org.
Lowering of Tots Fees- This season we are lowering our tots fees to $60 to help families introduce soccer to the young children. However, with the lowering of Clinic fees, Clinic registrations will not receive the early bird discount.
Sibling Discount- Starting this season we are offering a $5 discount for families who have multiple children playing soccer. A $5 discount per child will be added at the time of checkout. All children have to be registered in soccer and registered at the same time for the discount to be applied.
New County Jerseys- Due to the inability to continue to order white jerseys we currently have, we are switching to new jerseys this Spring. All players playing in the U8 through U13 age groups MUST purchase a new Jersey starting this Spring. Players in the U14/15 and U18 age groups are permitted to keep the current white ones. We are keeping the same shorts and socks currently in use. The only thing that is changing is the jersey.
Coaching Background Checks- A new SRYA rule as of January 1, 2019, is that all coaches and assistant coaches must have yearly background checks. This is a new mandate SRYA Board of Directors put in place across all SRYA sports, effective January 1, 2019. Soccer is requesting all coaches and assistant coaches perform their background checks each January. You can submit your background application online at https://www.aacounty.org/services-and-programs/volunteer-background-check. SRYA soccer will absorb the cost of the annual background check by providing coaches and assistant coaches with a discount code they will use when registering which will deduct the $7 cost from their SRYA registration. The code will be distributed in January. Coaches and Assistant Coaches who do not have a current 1 year background check will be removed from coaching until such time their background check is current. This is being done to protect the children and it is a simple process and SRYA Soccer absorbs the cost.
Coaching Certificates- The goal of SRYA Soccer is to have every coach certified in the level of soccer they are coaching (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11). The online courses are available at US Soccer - https://www.ussoccer.com/coaching-education/licenses/grassroots. A coach will receive one (1) free soccer registration each season they coach provided their certification email@example.com) prior to registering their child in soccer for the season. The discount applies to Head Coaches only.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you again for the Spring 2019 season!
Happy New Year!
